NATIONAL SCREENING PROGRAMME
Breast screening
Women aged 50–69
Who it’s for
The programme invites women aged 50–69 who have no breast symptoms. If you are in this age range and have not received an invitation, call the Centre.
Before your test
Bring your ID, GP contact details and any previous private mammograms. Avoid deodorant, talc and creams around the breasts that day. Call ahead about pregnancy, breastfeeding, a recent mammogram or positioning needs.
What happens
A radiographer takes breast X-rays with brief compression. The appointment usually takes about half an hour.
Results & next steps
Normal findings are generally posted in about three weeks. A recall may mean more imaging or a biopsy is needed. Follow the timing in your invitation for your next screen.
